April 2, 2024 – Inter-American Division
In a compassionate and strategic response to the escalating humanitarian crisis in Haiti, the Adventist Laymen’s Services and Industries (ASI) Inter-American Division officially launched its Haiti Relief Project on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. The virtual launch, held via Zoom at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time, brought together ASI leaders, members, and supporters from across the division to raise awareness and mobilize resources for those impacted by the ongoing unrest in the country.
The initiative was established to sensitize the global church community to the deteriorating conditions in Haiti and to encourage financial contributions to support urgent relief efforts. The project focuses on providing direct cash assistance to Seventh-day Adventist members who have been displaced from their homes due to widespread violence, civil instability, and gang activity that have gripped the nation in recent months.
The crisis has forced the closure of institutions, including the Adventist University of Haiti, and has left many without shelter, food, or access to essential services.
In partnership with ASI members on the ground—under the leadership of ASI Vice President Fegens—and the Haiti Union of Seventh-day Adventist Churches, led by Pastor Caporal, the ASI-IAD team devised a secure and efficient financial distribution system. Leveraging a locally used cash app platform and a trusted network of retail outlets, ASI was able to ensure that relief funds reach affected members directly and quickly, bypassing infrastructure limitations and minimizing risk.
"This is not just about money—it’s about restoring dignity, offering hope, and reminding our brothers and sisters in Haiti that they are not forgotten," said an ASI-IAD spokesperson. “We are called to serve not only with our prayers but also with our resources.”
